Didn't it rain!

It rained all night. Even the abandoned inflatable swimming pool—why did typing those last four words make me think of the "cee-ment pond" belonging to the Clampett family in the 'Beverly Hillbillies' series?—showed signs of new life and allowed itself to start filling with rainwater. Around noon, the sun broke through and a patch of blue made its way over the crest of the ridge.

The dewy freshness of these grasses, balancing Summer and Fall colors, was very appealing.

After the rain stopped, there was an audible increase in the neighborhood noise level. People started to appear outdoors to continue all their usual gardening, yard work, bodging, and tinkering: "the simple round, the common task", as Churchill said of TE Lawrence in an early version for 'TE Lawrence by His Friends', subtly rephrasing two lines from John Keble's 'Morning' hymn:

The trivial round, the common task
Should furnish all we ought to ask

Winston, dear, I have no objection to my own work being described as simple or indeed trivial.
